laat U koninkryk kom; laat U wil geskied, soos in die hemel net
so ook op die aarde; gee ons vandag ons daaglikse brood;

Where Should I Start Reading the Bible?
Here some suggestions:
It is important realize that the Bible is not an ordinary book to read from cover to cover. It is a collection of 66 books written by different authors in several languages. Any first reading of the Bible should begin with the Gospels, in the New Testament. You may start with the gospel of John, the 4th Book of the New Testament. It is simple and clear and introduces you to the essential plan of Salvation. Then you may chose the gospel of Mark, quick and fast-paced. Mark tells us what Jesus did, while John tells us what Jesus said and who Jesus was. Reading the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John ) will familiarize you with Christ’s life and ministry.
The Bible can inspire not only the faithful or believers but anyone who seeks for answers in life. Many people already know some Bible verses and they might not know those words are written in the Holy Bible. 'Our father', for example, is prayed by many all over the world who may not realize that prayer is the pure word of God - Matthew 6:9.
Epistles like (Romans, Ephesians, Philippians) teach us how to live our lives in a way that is honoring to God. You may also read the Old Testament: read the book of Genesis - it tells us how God created the world and how mankind fell into sin, as well as the impact that fall had on the world. Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy may be hard to read because they get into all the laws God required the Jews to live by. These are perhaps better left for later study. Reading Psalms through Song of Solomon will give you a good feel of Biblical poetry and wisdom. The prophetic books, like Isaiah and Daniel, are great books to read to understand deeper aspects of Christianity and the End Time - the time before Jesus second coming.

What is a Christian and how can I become one?
It is very simple:
A: To become a Christian you have to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. A Savior is the one who saves us, who redeems us, who delivers us from our sins. A sin is a disobedience, a transgression against God’s law of love and also an intrinsic part of our human nature. According to the Bible, the Word of God, written by His prophets and Jesus' disciples under the anointing of God, “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. We are all born with sin and will die in sin if we do not accept Jesus Christ as our savior. Salvation brings peace and joy to our lives now and the promise of Eternal Life, heaven and happiness for eternity. In simple terms: God is our Heavenly Father, we are his children. We have been disobedient and “naughty”, therefore we deserve to be punished. Because our Heavenly Father loves us so much, He sent Jesus to receive the punishment for us, the death of the cross, so that we do not have to pay for our disobedience and sin, but we are cleansed from them through believing and receiving Jesus Christ as our Savior.
Salvation
Admit – In order to be saved we have to admit or acknowledge that we are sinners, separated from God and that we do not know God's Love.
You might say: “But I am pretty good, at least a lot better than many others…” – Sorry, that is not enough – you cannot go to Heaven unless you are perfect and nobody is perfect, everybody makes mistakes, everybody has sinned. Here is what the Bible says: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” - [click on the reference to see the verse in the Bible] Romans 3:23;“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” - Romans 6:23; “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” - Ephesians 2:8,9.Believe and Receive – Simply believe on Him as the one who bore your sin, died in your place, was buried, and whom God resurrected. – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” – John 3:16; “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved” - Acts 16:30-31. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” – John 1:12; “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” – John 3:36. We receive Christ by personal invitation. Jesus is nearby us waiting to be invited to come into our hearts and that we accept Him in our lives. Jesus says: “behold, I stand at the door and knock if any man hear my voice and open the door I will come into him” - Revelation 3:10.
Confess –The Bible says: “That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” - Romans 10:9-10. We must proclaim or confess our salvation, in other words, we must not deny it. Jesus said: “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven” - Matthew 10:32.
Here is a simple prayer you can say (pray) to make sure you are saved:
- Dear Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner, and I ask you for forgiveness, I believe you are the son of God and you died for my sins. I receive you into my heart, and confess that you are my savior and my Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.
And here is a prayer you may pray when you doubt or when you fear. The prayer that Jesus taught to His disciples:
'Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. [For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.' Amen. Matthew 6:9-13]

Do I need to be Baptized?
A: We receive Christ's baptism when we confess, repent and sincerely pray to receive Jesus in our hearts. We receive the inward power of the Holy Spirit when we ask, whereby the believer is immersed in Jesus' power, purity, and wisdom. This baptism is the essential Christian baptism: an experience of cleansing from sin that supplants the ritual of water baptism.
Q: But Jesus was water baptized why should not I?
A:Jesus was also circumcised. You don't need to. Jesus offered turtle doves as a sacrifice. He kept the Passover and other traditions. You don't need to. Jesus did many of the Jewish rituals before He was glorified - that is, before His death and resurection.Burnt offerings and sacrifices were offered for sin under the Old Testament. Jesus became the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. The New Testament started with Jesus death and Resurrection, not with John the Baptist.

Faith vs. works [efforts, rituals, ceremonies] - which one?
Faith, of course!
Someone once said there are only two religions in the world: Works and Faith. Some may say that there is only one religion in the world: works. Faith is the end of religion. 'for by grace are ye saved through faith and that is not of yourselves, it is a gift of God'.[Ephesians 2:8.9]. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [Hebrews 11;1]. A man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law' [Romans 3:28; 4:5-8; Galatians 2:16; 3:10-13, 5:2-4]. God freely justifies those who do not rely on their works and efforts, but wholly trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
In the above biblical verses in Romans and Galatians, Paul is asking: How can a guilty sinner be justified by God? Essentially Paul answers that a sinner is justified by faith in Christ, and not by the merit of his works.
Now, some claim that the book of James brings out a different concept. James 2:24: 'Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only'. Is this a contradiction? Not so: James is making a distinction between two kinds of faith. One that is real, and one that is a counterfeit. How do we know the difference, how do we distinguish one from the other 'Show me your faith without your works; and I will show you my faith by my works.' [James 2:18]
However, it is by faith in Christ alone (and not by the merits of our works) [Titus 3:5] that we are saved (justified before God); yet the faith that justifies is never alone, (unfruitful, barren) if it is genuine.
Mere mental assent to the gospel truths is not enough. One must have living faith, and that is always manifest by good works. Good works prove that he and his faith are genuine.
Real faith is alive, manifests itself in good works; counterfeit faith is dead, barren, the mere assent to doctrine. Good works [love, charity] are the fruit of faith and not a replacement for faith.
However, many religious works are performed as a substitution, a replacement for faith: rituals, like lighting candles, prayers for the dead, ceremonies, traditions of all kinds, which are a manifestation of religious fervor. That is where faith and works clash. Works of that kind are like trying to build a ladder to reach up to God... while faith is to believe that God has descended to us, to save us, in the form of His Son, Jesus Christ.Baptism is like a wedding ceremony?
Now-a-days it is quite common to hear preachers say that water baptism is only a testimony, a manifestation of salvation - sort of like what a wedding ceremony is to marriage. That is fine except that it does bring a lot of questioning and doubt concerning the deeper and long lasting meaning of Salvation. It is worthy to remember that many expensive and extravagant wedding ceremonies end up being a waste and a misrepresentation of marriage, as statistics prove that a great percentage of marriages end up in short term unions and divorce. By the same token, many baptism ceremonies end up being a very ephemeral testimony of the person's salvation. A greater and lasting testimony would be the person's lifestyle and fruitfulness, living the sacrificial, loving life of a Christian - that is what most people (outside the church) will look for and appreciate. In other words, there are many more, and much more effective ways of being a Christian testimony, with a much broader and long-lasting impact, than merely taking water baptism, with some church, in the presence of handful of like minded church goers...
Not least, many religious denominations manipulate (water) baptism, requiring that people be baptized into their denomination even if they have already done so in other denomination. That includes Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons, the Orthodox and Baptists. This is membership initiation not the kind of Baptism Christ instituted! How can I be saved [redeemed, liberated from my sins]?
